## Facebook's additional profiles: a second profile Meta built itself

Facebook additional profiles rules, as Meta designed them: one account, one login, and a violation on any profile counts against the whole account.

Facebook additional profiles rules come down to one idea: the extra profiles belong to one person and live inside that person's one account. As Meta designed them, they share a login, the main profile has to stay, and a violation on any of them counts against the whole account. Meta built them to meet the "I want a second profile" demand without giving up the rule of one personal account per person.

Facebook's terms allow one personal account per person. Mosaic keeps accounts you are entitled to run apart; it does not change what a platform allows.

## What Meta built, and when

Meta began testing additional profiles in July 2022 and later opened them to more accounts. The shape it announced was specific. One Facebook account could carry up to four additional profiles beside the main one. Each could have its own name and @username, its own friends list and its own Feed, and could follow different Groups and Pages. You signed in once and switched between them without logging out.

The main profile kept the person's name in everyday use, which is Facebook's authentic identity rule (what that rule asks, part by part, is in [Facebook's real name policy](https://mosaicbrowser.com/blog/facebook-authentic-identity-rule)). The additional ones did not have to. A profile for your cycling club friends or for following one hobby could carry a name that was not yours, as long as it did not pretend to be another person or a brand.

Who can create one has changed since that test, and Meta's Help Center page, About additional Facebook profiles, is where the current answer lives. What has stayed constant is the design, and the design is the interesting part.

## What the Facebook additional profiles rules say about one person

Read the restrictions together and they draw a line around money, identity and enforcement.

When they launched, additional profiles could not use Dating, Marketplace, Professional Mode or payments. Every one of those is a place where a second name would let a person look like someone else to a stranger: a buyer, a date, an audience, a payee. Meta kept those on the profile that carries your real name.

Enforcement runs through the account, not the profile. Meta said plainly in 2022 that a violation on an additional profile would affect the account as a whole. Five profiles are still one owner, and a ban that removes one bad profile can reach the main one beside it.

Some account-level things stayed with the main profile. Meta's help pages described the legacy contact as something set on the main profile, and the main profile as something you could not delete on its own: deleting it meant deleting the account.

None of this is hidden. It is Meta saying, in product form, what it said in its terms: a person can have several faces on Facebook, and Facebook still knows they are one person.

## What it does not cover

The demand behind "how do I make a second Facebook account" is usually one of three things, and additional profiles only ever answered one of them.

A separate social life, interests or friends list is what they were built for.

A business, brand or client presence was never theirs. That is a Page, created from your personal account, and for advertising it is a business portfolio, the container Meta used to call Business Manager. [Business Manager is now a business portfolio](https://mosaicbrowser.com/blog/business-portfolio-not-business-manager) covers what the rename did and did not change. An agency gets access when a client adds it as a partner, and each person works from their own account.

A second, separately registered personal account is a different thing again. Meta's help pages drew the distinction themselves: only profiles created through your account counted as additional profiles. An account registered on its own is a second account, and that is the one the rule does not allow.

There is a quieter link worth knowing about. Accounts Center asks you to join your Facebook, Instagram and Messenger accounts under one login, which is you telling Meta they belong together; [what Accounts Center joins](https://mosaicbrowser.com/blog/meta-accounts-center-joins-you) lists each thing it shares.

## Where a separate browser fits

An additional profile is switched inside Facebook, so a browser has nothing to do with it. It is one account in one session either way.

A separate browser profile is for the work around Facebook that has no built-in switch: a client's store admin, a scheduling tool the client invited you to, an ads dashboard on another platform. Each Mosaic profile keeps its own cookies, fingerprint and proxy, so one client's sessions do not sit beside the next client's. What that separation covers, and what it does not, is in [what an anti-detect browser is](https://mosaicbrowser.com/guides/what-is-an-anti-detect-browser).

What no browser does is turn one person into two Facebook accounts. Meta built additional profiles precisely so that the extra faces stay inside one account, and we don't write guides for working around that.

## Questions

### Is an additional Facebook profile a second account?

No. It lives inside your one account, under the same login, with your main profile required beside it. A separately registered Facebook account is a different thing, and a second personal account is outside Facebook's rules.

### What could additional profiles not do when they launched?

When Meta rolled them out in 2022, Dating, Marketplace, Professional Mode and payments were not available on additional profiles. They were for following interests and keeping separate friends lists, not for selling or business.

### If one additional profile breaks the rules, what happens to the rest?

Meta said from the start that a violation on an additional profile affects the account as a whole. The profiles share one owner, so enforcement can reach the main profile too.

### Can I still create an additional Facebook profile?

Who can make one has changed since the 2022 test, so the honest answer is to check its Help Center page, About additional Facebook profiles, before you plan around them.
