# Can you have multiple Reddit accounts?

> Yes, you can have multiple Reddit accounts, even on one email. What it bans is voting with them on the same posts and using one to get round a ban.

## Can you have multiple Reddit accounts?

Yes. Reddit's help center says you are welcome to create multiple accounts and can verify them with the same email address, but forbids using them to vote on the same posts or comments, or to get round a community or site-wide ban.

![Several Reddit accounts, and the two things they can't do, beside a screenshot: filtering Mosaic profiles by tag: only the profiles tagged "shop" are listed](https://mosaicbrowser.com/covers/can-you-have-multiple-reddit-accounts.webp)

Reddit answers the question itself, in a help article titled "Is it ok to create multiple accounts?". The first line is "Yes! You're more than welcome to create multiple Reddit accounts and you can even use the same email address to verify both of them" ([Reddit Help](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/204535759-Is-it-ok-to-create-multiple-accounts), read 2 November 2026). So you can have multiple Reddit accounts, and Reddit does not put a number on how many. The line it draws is about what the accounts do, not how many exist.

Mosaic keeps accounts you are entitled to run apart; it does not change what a platform allows. On Reddit, that means the two rules below apply to every account you hold, whichever browser it runs in.

## The two things multiple Reddit accounts must not do

The same help article carries a warning in bold: "Don't use any of your accounts to vote on the same posts or comments. This is considered vote manipulation which violates the Reddit Rules."

The second rule is in Reddit's [Disrupting Communities](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043066412-Disrupting-Communities) policy (read 2 November 2026), which lists ban evasion as "Creating or using multiple accounts to circumvent a community ban issued by a mod of a community or to violate Reddit policies following a site-wide ban issued by Reddit admins." Reddit's article [What is ban evasion?](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043504811-What-is-ban-evasion) says both kinds "could result in a sitewide suspension".

Reddit's [Spam](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043504051-Spam) policy names two more uses of several accounts as violations: "Leveraging multiple accounts to artificially inflate the subscriber count of a subreddit" and "Automating the creation of multiple Reddit accounts or communities". Disrupting Communities also lists "Automated means to manipulate karma". Each of them fakes how popular something is.

## Can you have multiple Reddit accounts on one Google sign-in?

No, and that is the one practical limit. Reddit's help article says each Google or Apple account "can only be linked to a single Reddit account at a time". Try to make a second Reddit account with the same Google sign-in and Reddit logs you into the first one. To use that Google account for a new Reddit account you disconnect it first, under Account Settings › Connected Accounts on reddit.com. The simpler route for a second account is a username, a password and your usual email address, which Reddit lets you reuse.

## Why people keep more than one Reddit account

The honest reasons are dull, which is why Reddit allows them. A person with a username tied to their real name keeps a second account for questions about health, money or a job search. A moderator keeps their moderating separate from their own posting. A company's community manager posts as the brand in its own subreddit and reads everything else as themselves. Someone who looks after a client's account has the client's login and their own.

None of those accounts vote together, and none of them replace a banned one. That is the whole test.

## Does Reddit know which accounts are yours?

Often it does, and Reddit says so. Its [privacy policy](https://www.reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy) (effective 1 July 2026, read 2 November 2026) lists "your IP address, user-agent string, browser type, operating system, referral URLs, device information (such as device IDs), device settings, and mobile carrier name" among what it collects as you use the site, plus cookies. Its [ban evasion filter](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/15484544471444-Ban-evasion-filter), which moderators can switch on, flags accounts using "signals that imply certain accounts are related", which Reddit says "can include things like how users connect to Reddit and information they share with us".

Read that the right way round. The filter only catches accounts "if they have an account signal associated with a banned user", in Reddit's words. Two accounts of yours being related costs nothing while neither is banned. It is the same pattern most sites follow, laid out in [how websites detect multiple accounts](https://mosaicbrowser.com/guides/how-do-websites-detect-multiple-accounts).

One more line from Reddit's [User Agreement](https://redditinc.com/policies/user-agreement) (effective 1 July 2026, read 2 November 2026) matters for anyone holding accounts for other people: "You will not license, sell, or transfer your Account without our prior written approval." Buying an account is outside the rules, however many you hold.

## Keeping separate accounts separate

The rules above are easy to keep when the accounts are yours and you switch between them by hand. The mistakes happen in one browser, where the last account you signed in to is the one that votes, comments or posts. A brand's reply going out from your personal account is the common case, and a stray upvote from the wrong account on your own post is the one Reddit counts against you.

The fix is one browser profile per account, so each has its own cookies and only ever shows one username. Our set-up for that, by hand and in Mosaic, is in [how to manage multiple Reddit accounts](https://mosaicbrowser.com/guides/manage-multiple-reddit-accounts). For a team looking after accounts that belong to clients, [Mosaic for social media managers](https://mosaicbrowser.com/use-cases/social-media-managers) describes the same idea with a project per client and their two-factor codes kept beside each profile.

## Questions

### Can two Reddit accounts use the same email address?

Yes. Reddit's help article on multiple accounts says you can use the same email address to verify both. Sign-in with Google or Apple is different: each Google or Apple account links to one Reddit account at a time.

### Is it against the rules to upvote my own post from another account?

Yes. Reddit's help center calls voting on the same posts or comments from more than one of your accounts vote manipulation, and its Disrupting Communities policy lists it as a violation of the Reddit Rules.

### Can I use a second account in a subreddit that banned me?

No. Reddit defines that as ban evasion, and it can lead to a site-wide suspension. Some moderators accept a user back on another account in good faith, so the honest route is to message the moderators and ask.

### Will Reddit know my accounts belong to the same person?

Often, yes. Reddit's privacy policy lists IP addresses, device IDs and cookies among what it collects, and its ban evasion filter uses signals such as how users connect to Reddit. For accounts used within the rules that costs you nothing.
