Glossary

The words of browser fingerprinting and proxies, each defined in plain language.

Anti-detect browserAn anti-detect browser runs separate profiles, each with its own fingerprint, proxy and cookies, so a site sees each one as a different computer.Browser fingerprintA browser fingerprint is the set of values a site reads about your browser and computer, which together recognize you without cookies. What goes into one.Browser fingerprintingBrowser fingerprinting is recognising a browser by reading its hardware, settings and rendering quirks instead of storing a cookie. How sites do it.Canvas fingerprintingCanvas fingerprinting draws hidden text and shapes, reads the pixels back and hashes them. Small rendering differences make the hash a mark of your machine.Chromium vs ChromeChromium is the open-source browser project; Chrome is Google's build of it, with codecs, keys and components Chromium lacks. A page can tell them apart.Client hints fingerprintingClient hints fingerprinting reads the Sec-CH-UA headers and navigator.userAgentData, then checks them against the User-Agent and the rest of the browser.JA3 fingerprintA JA3 fingerprint is an MD5 hash of five fields from a TLS ClientHello. Chrome has shuffled its extensions since version 110, so JA3 no longer pins it.JA4 fingerprintJA4 is a TLS client fingerprint in three parts: a readable summary of the ClientHello, then hashes of its sorted cipher suites and extensions.Multi-accountingMulti-accounting is running several accounts on one platform. Some platforms allow it, some allow one per person, and all link accounts they see together.Residential proxyA residential proxy sends your traffic out through an address an ISP assigned to a home connection, so sites see a household rather than a data center.Rotating proxyA rotating proxy sends each connection, or each few minutes of traffic, out through a different IP from a pool. Fine for scraping, wrong for a login.Sticky session proxyA sticky session proxy keeps one exit IP for as long as a session id in your login lives, so an account signs in from one place, not a new one per click.TLS fingerprintingTLS fingerprinting identifies the software behind a connection from its TLS ClientHello, read before any page loads. JA3 and JA4 are the common formats.WebGL fingerprintingWebGL fingerprinting reads the GPU vendor and renderer strings, dozens of driver limits and a rendered image, which together identify your GPU.WebRTC leakA WebRTC leak is a page learning your real IP address through WebRTC's STUN requests, which can go around a proxy or VPN instead of through it.
